In planning for the major remodel of our Children's Inpatient Program (completed January 2012) we asked our architects, designers and staff to try see the space through the eyes of a child. What we came up with is a thoughtful combination of best practices in clinical space design infused with a strong sense of wonder for the young people in our care.
Highlights of this new 21st-century space include:
- comforting, child-friendly design and decor
- private bedrooms for up to 12 children
- sensory integration room
- multi-use community rooms
- low stimulation suite and quiet room
- dedicated family visiting space
- the very latest in architectural safety design--from floor to ceiling.
So if your daughter or son, or a child you know, is struggling with serious social, emotional or psychiatric issues, the Brattleboro Retreat provides the kind of short-term hospital care that can be an important first step toward a healthier, more rewarding life. Our Children’s Inpatient Program offers stabilization and specialized treatment services for children ages 5 to 12.
Why Refer a Child for Inpatient Care?
Many children we see have experienced significant life traumas. These experiences can lead to low self-esteem, poor peer relationships, and difficulty taking direction or making life transitions.
With or without these hurdles, a child can be in crisis due to any number of mental health or behavioral problems caused by, or related to:
- Depression
- Threatened or attempted suicide
- Self-harming behaviors
- Bipolar Disorder
- Severe Anxiety Disorders such as Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Eating Disorders
- Anger Management Problems
- Autism Spectrum Disorders
- Substance abuse.
